The Ministry of Health has simplified sick leave for Ukrainians abroad who have become temporarily unable to work. The following categories of incapacity for work are covered: general illness or injury; caring for a sick child; pregnancy and childbirth; and orthopedic prosthetic.
In these cases, Ukrainian citizens are entitled to an electronic sick leave and social benefits.
Therefore, keep the algorithm for obtaining sick leave while abroad:
- Seek medical care from a local doctor. He or she must provide you with documentary evidence of the request and the fact of temporary disability.
- A medical certificate of temporary disability (MTC) must be issued on the day of the patient's application, according to the doctor's opinion.
- If you have received a temporary disability certificate abroad, you can apply to your family doctor or attending physician while you are still abroad or upon your return to Ukraine.
- You must provide foreign medical documents and their notarized translations into Ukrainian. They are used to create a sick leave certificate in the Pension Fund's register of electronic sick leave certificates, and thus the patient will be able to receive state-guaranteed social benefits faster.
- If you travel abroad to continue treatment and have an existing temporary disability certificate to extend the period of temporary disability, while abroad, you must send your attending physician foreign medical documents that must indicate the period of disability.
- If you were sick abroad (and have supporting medical documents) but were unable to send the documents to your doctor from abroad, after returning to Ukraine, within a year (from the date of treatment) you can contact your family doctor to get a temporary disability certificate with the dates indicated in the foreign medical documents.
