Pertussis outbreak in the world

The incidence of pertussis is growing in Ukraine. Outbreaks of this highly contagious respiratory disease are also reported in Europe, the United States, and Australia.

So how do you recognize whooping cough?

At the beginning of the disease, the symptoms may be the same as with a common SARS: runny nose, non-critical fever. But after 5-8 days, a spasmodic cough with a characteristic whistle appears. Its attacks are more likely to occur at night, often with such intensity that the face turns red and tearing begins. Recovery begins in 4-8 weeks and can last from 2 to 6 months.

Anyone of any age can get pertussis. Pertussis is most dangerous for infants. They do not always have a cough, but they may have short-term respiratory failure.

The best protection against pertussis is preventive vaccination. Vaccination helps prevent deaths and severe cases of pertussis.
